In this module, students expand their word-processing skills and build on skills developed in ‘Exploring Documents’, so that they can create documents for many purposes. They are able to use the software to change the look of the text, add tables and amend the page layout, including the way images are displayed in the document. They also learn how to make changes to the document as a whole, including adjusting margins, adding page numbering, or adjusting whether the page appears in landscape or portrait layout. They understand how to use the wordprocessing software to edit a document to make it more suitable for its purpose.
Students can apply a range of formatting options, such as bold, italic and underline, as well as being able to amend font type and colour, to highlight key points or titles within the text and make the document suitable for its purpose. Students should also demonstrate an ability to change the look of text/passages within a document, to make it more appropriate for its meaning.
Students can use text wrap, image/object size, cropping or positioning options, so that images or other objects are placed appropriately in the document. Students should demonstrate an ability to be in control of how objects look and are how they are placed within the text.
Students should be able to insert a table within the document.
In addition to the pass criteria, students can use bullet points, numbering, lists or tabs to add extra definition to their document.
Students are able to change page layout (portrait to landscape or adjust margins) and add page numbers or other items to the header or footer of the document.
Students are able to justify (at least verbally, if not in writing) the choices they have made when formatting their document to make it appealing to its target audience.
At the end of this course, student will take the ICT Starters Assessment of On Track Stage 1 Module 1 : Documents for a Purpose.
Cambridge Certification is available at TWO stages.
