Introduction

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is the world's most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. It develops successful students, giving them excellent preparation for their next steps in education, including progression to A and AS Level study, and equips them with skills for immediate employment. Cambridge IGCSE is recognised by universities and employers worldwide.

Grading System

Grading is on an eight-point scale (A*–G) and grades A to E are equivalent to O Level grades A to E.

Information & Communication Technology (Subject Code: 0417)

Information and Communication Technology is an applied subject and all candidates will require frequent access to computer and Internet facilities to develop their skills.

The Information Communication Technology syllabus combines theoretical and practical studies focusing on the ability to use common software applications, including word processors, spreadsheets, databases, interactive presentation software, e-mail, web browsers and website design. It encourages learners to develop lifelong skills, including

  • understanding and using applications
  • using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to solve problems
  • analysing, designing, implementing, testing and evaluating ICT systems, ensuring that they are fit for purpose
  • understanding the implications of technology in society, including social, economic and ethical uses awareness of the ways ICT can help in home, learning and work environments.

Scheme of Assessment

All candidates will be entered for Paper 1, 2 and 3.

Paper 1 (1 hour 30 minutes)

A written paper contains multiple-choice, short-answer and structured questions. There will be no choice of questions.

Paper 2 and 3 (2 hours 15 minutes each)

The practical tests focus on the candidate’s ability to carry out practical tasks rather than to explain the theory of how the tasks are completed. Candidates are assessed on their ability to complete these tasks.

All 3 papers will take place at FUTUREKIDS Computer Learning Center, by means of a CAIE-set assessments, under controlled examination conditions. The documentation and printouts produced in the assessment will be externally marked by CAIE.

Examinations Schedule

Examinations are held in June and November each year with results issued in August and February respectively.
